united women in faith (UWF)

connectING spiritual women to act boldly for justice and transform communities

We believe love in action can change the world.

Driven by God’s love and united in sisterhood, we work to improve the lives of women, children and youth. Every day, we show up. We take action. We get it done. And we invite you to explore the many ways you can join us at Strawbridge UMC! Questions? Please contact Kristin Pieknik, Strawbridge UMC's UWF President.

2024-03-12 UWF Pink Ladies 3x2

Isaiah 40:31 "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not be faint"

Our vision is to reach into the community and to impact the lives of women at any stage of breast cancer.  We, as breast cancer survivors, have been through the same situations, or something very similar, and we are here to help them. We understand that the minute they are diagnosed with breast cancer they become a member of a club that they didn’t ask to join or want to be involved in.  They can be and are often overwhelmed with the challenging diagnosis.  Our goal is to help others understand that there is HOPE, and they can possess healing that transforms their lives for a more fulfilling and better future.

Through support group meetings we will discuss:

  • Emotional & spiritual support
  • Relationships
  • Nutrition and exercise

Women of all ethnicities diagnosed with breast cancer are welcome; especially, those who desire to live a more healthy and spiritual life through the belief that God is working in and through us.

We meet at 1:00 pm on the third Tuesday of each month in The Bride's Room (Rm. 152 which is right next door to The Choir Room).

For more information, please contact Sue Schreiner, Facilitator, Pink Ladies of Strawbridge UMC - A Breast Cancer Support Group.

lgbtq+ UNITED

Everyone is welcome! Grandparents, parents, friends, and allies are invited to join us on the FIRST WEDNESDAY of every MONTH! Two meeting times are available. The first is noon until 1:00 pm and we also meet later in the day from 6:30 until 7:30 pm. Please come to whichever time works best for you!

Update! For the month of July, we are going to push back our meeting day a week to avoid conflicting with the 4th of July holiday. So meet us on Wednesday, July 10 at noon and/or 6:30 pm in Room 151!

We offer a loving, compassionate, and safe space to share stories and experiences, to support each other, and to learn from one another. We hope to be a resource for everyone no matter where you are on this "heart journey". We may not know all the answers, but we do know that WE ARE ALL GOD’S CHILDREN, and GOD LOVES US ALL. We welcome EVERYONE - straight and LGBTQ+. Please join us!

For questions and more info, please email Karen Dillewyn or call/text Lana Walker at (832) 549-9697. You can also follow us on Facebook  and/or Instagram to say up-to-date!

2024-03-12 Caring Hearts Cards 3x2

The Caring Hearts Team is a card ministry. Do you know of someone sick, hospitalized, undergoing treatment, suffering a loss, depressed, or just in need of regular contact from Strawbridge UMC?

We would love to share a hug through a special card for extra love and support for them. We are currently sending out about 20 cards a month. Some people get cards once or twice but many receive them monthly.

Please contact Pat Rogers or Margaret Sugarek for more information or if you'd like to help with this ministry. You can also contact Anne Blakely, church secretary, at 281-360-4500.
2024-03-12 UWF Prayer Shawl 3x2

They meet in The Library at 1:00 pm each Wednesday and would love to welcome you "into the fold". For more information, please contact Donna Zimmer.

2024-03-05 Quilters 3x2

Strawbridge Interfaith Quilters was formed in 2001. Initially, it was to represent Strawbridge UMC at the annual Interfaith Quilting Bee held at the Mormon church. But we have grown into so much more!

We have members that do not sew or quilt, but can run an iron or scissors with great skill. Anyone with a helping heart is welcome to join us. Our quilts are used to wrap anyone who needs to be warmed physically, spiritually, and emotionally. We pray over them as we are working and then have them blessed by Strawbridge UMC clergy.

Some of our recipients have been SUMC Habitat for Humanity homeowners, Family Promise of Lake Houston, Mission Northeast, Family Time, Shriners Burn Hospital, Dell Children's Hospital, Village Learning Center, Mothers Against Cancer, a breast cancer golf tournament, an orphanage in Angola, cancer patients, Alzheimer and memory care patients, and Elm Grove Elementary School.

We have a lot of fun, fellowship, and faith. If you feel called to join us, we would love to have you!

Our next Work Day is set for Wednesday, August 21 in The Great Hall from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Lunch will be provided. New participants are ALWAYS welcome to join us! Simply contact Kathy Ryan to let her know so she can ensure there's plenty of food and projects to work on.

For more information, please contact Kathy Ryan.
